If you travel first to Scotland, then to the West to the wild and remote Inner Hebrides, you will come to the beautiful, mountainous and sparsely-populated island of Jura.

There, overlooking the famous Corryvreckan Whirlpool, you will find a beautiful farmhouse named Barnhill which has become famous as the home of George Orwell while he was writing his novel, 1984.

Today modern writers, painters or other solitude-seekers can rent the entire estate complete with its log fire replace and shelves of books. If you’re looking to get away, you won’t find a more beautiful, remote setting in all the world.
